Who stays in Marín
- Naval School families: the graduation ceremony (entrega de reales despachos) is held every 16 July, the day of the Virgen del Carmen, presided over by the King, and in 2026 125 cadets received their commissions. Parents, grandparents and friends look for accommodation for one or two days, and on those dates nearby supply runs out. Throughout the academic year there are also family visits and academic events.
- Beaches: Aguete, Loira, Mogor, Portocelo and Santo do Mar-A Coviña have Blue Flags in 2026. They are medium-sized beaches, frequented by families from the area, and attract stays of one or two weeks in July and August.
- Port and work: fishing activity, the commercial port and the Navy generate work stays of several weeks outside summer.
- Heritage and nature: the Mogor petroglyphs and the coast towards Bueu attract weekend visits in spring and autumn.
Why Marín can be a good option
Marín has far less tourist supply than Sanxenxo or Vigo, but shares with them Blue Flag beaches and proximity to Pontevedra. A well-presented flat competes with few listings and reaches a guest looking for quiet and good value. The key is to make the most of the fixed dates (16 July, August) and not leave the flat idle the rest of the year: that is where medium stays work well. Homes with views of the port or the ría and those within walking distance of Portocelo or Aguete are the best positioned in summer.
Applicable regulations
Marín is governed by the Xunta’s Decreto 12/2017. The home is let as a whole, for stays of under 30 days, by means of a responsible declaration to Turismo de Galicia and registration in the REAT (the Galician tourist register). It requires a 24-hour contact phone, a maintenance service, complaint forms, third-party liability insurance and heating, unless you only rent from June to September. We know of no specific by-law or municipal restriction for VUTs (holiday homes) in Marín, nor a tourist tax surcharge. Since April 2025, in a building with a homeowners’ association you need the agreement of three fifths of owners to start renting to tourists. After the Supreme Court ruling of May 2026, the national NRUA register is no longer required and registration in the REAT is what counts.
