The gardens of the Royal Palace of La Granja have a collection of monumental fountains that Patrimonio Nacional (the Spanish state heritage body) turns on on set dates: 30 May (San Fernando), 25 July (Santiago) and 25 August (San Luis), plus other days of the season, which in 2026 started on 2 April. On the big dates it is wise to book tickets in advance, and those who come to see them usually stay overnight.
A realistic warning: in August 2026 Patrimonio Nacional ended the fountain season early for lack of water, because the El Mar pond, which feeds the system, hit its lowest level in over fifteen years, and the August displays were cancelled. That is why it is not wise to build the whole price calendar around the fountains: we adjust to what Patrimonio Nacional announces each year. We follow its website, where it publishes fountain days, times and closures, and update the rate calendar as soon as the dates are known, so that your property does not stay on low-season prices on a display day.

The municipality of the Real Sitio de San Ildefonso includes La Granja, Valsaín, La Pradera de Navalhorno and Riofrío. The Royal Glass Factory and its glass museum, the Valsaín pine forests and the routes through the Sierra de Guadarrama bring visitors in spring and autumn, and in winter some come up for the snow.
